Getting the most out of your handcrafted soy candles is easy when you follow a few simple care tips. At Sanbox Candle Co, we want your candles to burn beautifully from the first light to the last. Here's how to care for your candles properly.
1. Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This prevents smoking, ensures an even burn, and extends the life of your candle. Use wick trimmers or scissors for a clean cut.
2. Let the Wax Pool Reach the Edges
The first burn is the most important! Allow your candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container (usually 2-3 hours). This prevents tunneling and ensures you get the most out of your candle.
3. Don't Burn for Too Long
While you want a full melt pool, avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This keeps the wick centered and prevents the container from overheating.
4. Keep Your Candle Clean
Remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax pool before lighting. A clean candle burns better and looks more beautiful.
5. Store Candles Properly
Keep your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This preserves the fragrance and prevents discoloration.
6. Know When to Stop
Stop burning your candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom. Continuing to burn beyond this point can damage the container.
Safety First
Always burn candles on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, pets, and children. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
